With the support of UN Women in Iraq and the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Funda, the Iraqi Women Journalists Forum organized a training workshop on the early warning mechanism and the roles of women in peacemaking, for the period 25-27 September 2020 in Sulaymaniyah, with the participation of 30 activists / journalists / From different cities in Iraq.
The workshop was opened by the Director General of the Non-Governmental Organizations Department, Mr. Muhammad Taher Al-Tamimi, praising the work of the Women Journalists Forum and its humanitarian and media project in cooperation with the UN Women in Iraq, expressing his admiration for the topics raised by the project, which relate to the responsibility of society in supporting the role of women in peacemaking, especially with regard to mechanisms Early warning and informational awareness in this regard.
The President of the Iraqi Women Media Forum, Dr. Nebras Al-Mamouri, gave her speech about the project, its objectives, the activities that have been accomplished, and the future communication mechanisms regarding joint work.
Speech of the project implementation supervisor Mrs. Wafa Al-Nuaimi, in which she emphasized the importance of the media in dealing with early warning issues and the important and distinctive role of the Women Journalists Forum in this regard, she also thanked the NGO Department for their cooperation and support for what is presented and implemented within the project of the UN Women in Iraq and the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Funds, and for their inauguration of the workshop and their participation in activities and discussions.
The workshop, in which the international trainer, Tahseen Al-Zarkani, lectured, included training on Resolution 1325, early warning system is and its components, the application of international decisions, the possibility of knowledge of the danger, the mechanism of publication and communication, and the response capabilities.
It also included the common issues of governance, effective institutional arrangements, community participation, gender and cultural differences, as well as the main roles of local governments, international bodies and non-governmental organizations, and how to enhance women’s roles in community participation and peace.
On the third day, the workshop ended with the formation of three working groups that identified the problems, challenges and solutions to be adopted.
