The Official Registration of “Sawtoha” Network for Human Rights Women Defenders

“Sawtoha” Network for Human Rights Women Defenders gained the official registration certificate by the NGO Department, which is a part of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.

The General Director of the Department of Non-Governmental Organizations Dr. Mohammed Taher al-Tamimi, during delivering the certificate to the network director Dr. Nibras Al Mamouri, said: “The establishment of the network gives the motivation to move towards solving the issues of women in particular and human rights in general, to ensure professionalism, specialization and being aware of issues of priority that achieve a better situation.”

Al-Tamimi concluded his speech by saying: “The next phase needs everybody to unite to develop the Iraqi women’s movement and improve the performance of the formations that represent them .. nationally, regionally and internationally.”

For her part, Nibras Al-Mamouri thanked the head of the department, promising a near meeting with the coordinators of the network, from all governorates, taking into consideration the role of the organizations department in the activities of the network. Al-Mamouri added that receiving the registration certificate is an important message to those of concern, stating that the network seeks to work according to a sound legal system; concerned with having close relations with the relevant authorities.

Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr. Bushra al-Obeidi, confirmed that: “The network includes 90 members from north to south, a variety of specialties, and 18 coordination specialists of different Iraqi cities, and this is officially registered during the founding conference, which was held on December 23, 2017. Obaidi said:” The network is the first of its kind at the level of Iraq, in terms of specialization and administrative construction and will be the first task of its work coordination with relevant bodies to allow women to participate more in decision-making.
