Training workshop for women journalists and activists in Samawah on the UPR report

The Iraqi Women Journalists’ Forum, in cooperation with “Sawtuha” Network for Women Human Rights Defenders in Samawah, held a training workshop on the protection of women journalists and activists and the preparation of the UPR with the participation of 15 journalists and activists.

The workshop trainer was the coordinator of “Sawtuha” network in Samawah Batoul al-Dagher, included on the first day international agreements on human rights and the extent of Iraq’s commitment to them and the reality of women human rights defenders and journalists in Iraq and national laws such as the Journalists’ Rights Law.

The second day included the definition of the UPR , the role of civil society in monitoring, documentation and reporting, the mechanism of writing the report and the means of communication with the UPR Committee in Geneva and how to publicize the recommendations of the report and communicate with the relevant authorities.

The activity concluded with work groups for the trainees in the main elements of the report and how to follow up the recommendations.

The workshop was sponsored by the Canadian Alternatives Organization within the project of protection and safety of journalists and human rights defenders in Iraq, Palestine, Sudan and Yemen.
